02/20/2003 Edmund Lets Maria Go

"Donald Steele continued his nasty accusations at Michael about his meeting with Erica while Kendall stood speechless. Michael threatened Donald, and Greenlee stepped in, shoving him out the door. When Michael turned around, Kendall was gone. He looked around and found her on the rooftop. She said she didn't like being lied to, and he said it had all been Erica's doing, not his. He said Erica had thought he was staging a hostile takeover, so she had arranged a meeting.

Kendall wondered if her mother had asked about her, and Michael told her no, her name never been mentioned. Kendall didn't believe it and said her mother never missed a chance to bad-mouth her and tell everyone who would listen how she would ruin their lives. Michael asked why Erica hated Kendall so much, and she said her mother would go back in time and make sure Kendall had never been born if she could. Michael said he wouldn't let her because the idea of not knowing Kendall was unthinkable. He said Erica was jealous of Kendall's youth, beauty, and strength.

Kendall said she didn't know how strong she was, and Michael said she was the strongest woman he knew. He told her to trust her inner voice and that he knew she'd always be a major part of his life. Michael told her she could be anything she aspired to be, and he wished he could be with her that night to see her conquer the world. Kendall said she had connections and could get him a ticket, but he told her he had business that had to be taken care of. Michael told her to enjoy the spotlight, and she said she wanted to share it with him. He told her that she could share it with him when he whisked her away to Tuscany, and they shared a passionate kiss.

Jake walked into Fusion and found Mia busy getting ready for the party. He told her he had just gotten off the phone with his parents. Mia asked if they were okay about not having dinner that night. Jake said he hadn't told them. They argued, and Mia tried to explain how important the party was to her. Jake said they were getting lost in the shuffle, and Mia was touched that he missed her so much.

Mia stressed how important that night was, and Jake finally agreed to go with her. She promised not to leave his side for a minute and then ran off to do something. Jake stood there in silence. She returned with Greenlee, who told her about "Andrew," who was going to the celebration. Greenlee said Mia had to be "glued to him" for the evening. Jake asked if they were running a cosmetics company or an escort service.

Greenlee said everyone knew Mia belonged to Jake, and she took off. Mia told Jake she would ditch the guy as soon as she could. Jake tried to talk Mia into going home and changing clothes "and whatever else we can think of," but his phone rang. He answered it and told them he wasn't on call and to get the next person on the call list. Jake left to get ready while Mia stayed to help out.

Lori and Joni worked at Fusion, and Joni asked if Lori was going to the party with JR. Lori told Joni that they were definitely broken up. Joni said she had seen Lori and Jamie kissing at BJ's, and Lori said it had meant nothing. Joni said she hadn't known Lori was the type of girl who tried to take other girls' boyfriends. Lori got miffed and said she wasn't going after Jamie, and besides, he and Joni weren't going out anymore. Joni got angry and said she was telling JR and walked away.

Opal stopped by Fusion to pick up Petey. She wondered where Kendall was, and he said she was taking care of business. Opal wasn't pleased that Kendall wasn't watching her son. Petey told his mother that he was going to the party that night to help his "Fusion Babes" kick Enchantment's butt. Opal just snickered and said they couldn't beat Erica at the game she invented. Opal took Petey home.

In her Enchantment office Erica was on the phone to Jordan. She told him that Michael was in town and asked him to find out why. As she hung up, Bianca walked in and told her mother about the Fusion party. Bianca was worried about the competition, but Erica downplayed it. Bianca said Kendall and Greenlee were trying to bury Enchantment, but Erica just laughed and said to let them try.

Jack walked in with flowers, and Bianca asked what they were for, probing, "Did you two have a fight?" Erica said he didn't need a reason to buy her flowers and then asked Bianca to go check on Boyd. After Bianca left, Erica snipped at Jack, "Have you lost your mind?" Jack said she was stuck with him and asked where they should go for dinner. Erica told him to stop playing "this silly game," and Jack grabbed her arm, saying, "This is no silly game."

Erica reminded Jack that she was engaged to Chris, and he reminded her that they had slept together. Erica said it had been a mistake that wouldn't happen again. Jack said she couldn't edit out the naughty bits to make herself feel better, and he leaned in very close to her. Erica taunted him, asking if he wanted to take her right there on her desk. Jack said the thought had crossed his mind, and Erica asked why not. He said, "Greed. I want you all to myself."

Jack went on to say there was an undeniable force that kept drawing him and Erica back together and told her to admit it: they were destined to be together. She told him he was totally egotistical, and Jack wondered what Chris would say if he knew about their "indiscretion." Erica ordered him not to tell Chris, and Jack said a candlelit dinner would buy his silence. He started to walk out the door as Opal walked in. She wondered why Jack was there, and Erica got very testy with her friend.

Opal said she had gotten an invitation to the Fusion party from a Glamorama customer and was thinking she should go check it out for Erica. Erica said Opal wasn't dressed for the party; it was "urban chic, not urban blight." Opal was very hurt and stunned by Erica's nasty remark, and she left. Outside the door, Opal said, "I'll show her a thing or three," and left.

Meanwhile, Erica called her secretary Christy and told Christy not to let another person or phone call get through, or it would be her job. A few minutes later, Jack opened the door, followed by Christy, who said he hadn't listened when she had told him Erica wasn't seeing anyone. Jack told Erica she wasn't dressed for dinner, while she stood angry and speechless. Chris walked in and asked what he was interrupting.

Greenlee told Carlos he needed to work the party as a security guard, and Simone ran over to say that he was attending the party as her guest. Greenlee asked Simone where their party dresses were, and Simone said she was just leaving to pick them up and ran out. Greenlee noticed the flowers and asked about them. Kendall said they were from her mystery man and told Greenlee to check her email. Greenlee did, and there was a message that said, "You're the most beautiful flower in the bouquet." Kendall smiled at her and said, "You've got a date!" Greenlee said she was being cyber-stalked and grabbed the guest list to see if she could figure out who it was.

Boyd opened the party invitation Kendall had sent him as Bianca walked in the office. She asked if he was going, and he said no. She told him to rethink that decision; it could be a good time to show Kendall what she was missing. Bianca said they could go together, and Boyd finally agreed.

Aidan and Maureen stepped off the airplane into a sea of reporters. The reporters threw questions at them, but Aidan just pushed through them. They almost ran into Edmund. The reporters ran over and began firing more questions, but Edmund told them to leave them alone. He then asked Aidan for some privacy, and Aidan kissed Maureen's hand and began to step away.

Edmund asked how Maureen was and told her he should take her to Dr. Joe to get checked out. Aidan quickly stepped in and said she wasn't going anywhere with Edmund. Edmund said he wasn't going to force her to do anything, and she asked what he was doing there. Edmund apologized for trying to force her to be someone she was not. He said he had thought if he tried hard enough, Maria would return, but he had put her through hell, and he was sorry. She said she wasn't the woman he wanted her to be.

Edmund said he loved Maria so much that he had never stopped believing Maureen could be her, but he had to let her go. Maureen was touched, and Edmund said it was goodbye. She said it wasn't the place to do that, but Edmund said he couldn't take her back to Wildwind; that was just a prison to her. She asked about the kids, and he handed her the valentine Maddie had made. She started to grow teary-eyed and said it would break their hearts.

Edmund said he and Maureen needed to give the children time to understand that she wasn't returning home. Maria said she loved them. Edmund said she had to follow her heart and that they had to do what's best for everyone. Aidan said he'd take good care of Maureen. She asked Aidan for a minute alone with Edmund, so he went to get their luggage. She asked what was really going on because it was a little too easy.

Edmund said, "You think it's easy for me to say goodbye, no second chances, no hope? Easy for me to tell the children that their mommy isn't coming home?" Maureen said she didn't want to say goodbye to them, and Edmund said she just wanted to say goodbye to him. He said he remembered what they'd had and what they had lost. He said he loved her so much that he had to let her go.

Maureen cried and said she wished she could be Maria for him. Edmund had tears in his eyes as he handed her an envelope. He said it was a custody agreement. He said she would always have access to the children, but "as far as we're concerned, we're done. You're free.""
